Life of Worry
Life of Worry
Matthew 6:25-34
New King James Version (NKJV) 25 "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
28 "So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31 "Therefore do not worry, saying, What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or What shall we wear? 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
We all have struggles in our lives. Most of us are living paycheck to paycheck. Even though we have comfortable beds to sleep in, a solid roof over our heads, and refridgerators stocked with food, we all too often tend to wonder and worry about how we can have more!. maybe it's a bigger television, a newer car, or a bigger house. We get preoccupied and anxious about how we can ge the money together to affrod thses things. Or maybe we're in a different situation. We might be behind on the rent or wondering how we're gonna afford groceries for the week. The last thing we want to hear is how much worse it could be or how blessed we are to have what we've got.
With this in mind, imagine that you're living in first century Israel, barely scraping by. You struggle working in someone's field or vineyard to make enough to buy a loaf of bread for your family to eat. Maybe you've been pulling in nets all night trying to catch a few fish to eat, you're clothes aren't much more than rags, and now you're standing on a mountainside listening to this man who some say is sent by God. Some even call Him the Messiah, the annointed one. Others say He's a great prophet. This man that you know next to nothing about is telling you not to worry about what you will eat, what you will drink, or what you will wear. He tells you that God will provide all of your needs. You just need to have faith! He tells you to look at your surroundings there on the mountainside. See al the birds flying overhead. They don't have to lay up a supply of food, but they are plentiful. Look at the plants all around you. See how beautifully they're dressed with flowers of so many colors, but they don't gather up water in order to flourish. God has provided. Neither the birds or the plants had to worry themselves for their needs. They did not have to gather up or store supplies and aren't you much better than they? God's simplest creations don't have to worry themselves for their needs, so why are you? You can't add one more day to your existence with all of your worry. Well now, this man is making sense now, but how do I do this?
Then He says, your Father knows you need these things, so seek His kingdom with all your soul and seek the righteousness that is of Him. When you find this and start living in it, then your Father will provide the things you need to live a spiritually satisfying and prosperous life. Just put aside these worldly worries for these material things and these trivial wants and seek you're Father in heaven. Seek Him with all your heart and seek all the things that He wants for your life and for your soul. Then you will see that all of this worry is useless. It doesn't mean that you won't have to work to provide for your family. It doesn't mean that there won't be trials in your life. It does mean that there is no need for all of this anxiety, all of this despair, and all of this depression. It means this because when you have found the Lord and have started living in His ways, you are no longer carrying these burdens of life alone, because He is there with you every step of the way.
I hope that you have found God, that you know God, and that you are walking in His ways my friend. Have faith in Him.
God bless you my friend, Pete.
