Christmas
Christmas
Every year around this time I start hearing people bringing up the same old arguments. Some complain that Christmas has become too commercialized, we shouldn't tell kids that there's a santa clause, they don't believe in Christmas trees, buying presents has nothing to do with it, or it's not really Christ's birthday so we shouldn't celebrate it at all.
Okay, yes Christmas has become very commercialized and corporations use it as a way to make as much money off of us as possible. There's no denying that. Second, I know that Santa Clause has nothing to do with what christmas was originally about. On the other hand though santa symbolizes the spirit of giving that Christmas is about. God gave us his son to save us from our sins. The three wise men brought gifts to the new born King! We pay rememberance to this every time we give gifts to each other. The spirit of giving to another child of God is the real reason for the gifts. As for santa clause, he's a fairy tale for children just like Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, and Jack and the Beanstalk. Do you want to take these fun stories away from your children; stories that all show the struggle for good versus evil? If we're going to do that to our children we might as well have a big book burning in all of our town squares like some kind of fascists or communists. Let a child be a child while they can, and let them have their fantasies. As they grow older, they'll see that santa is a fairy tale and that Christ is what Christmas is all about. Also, if you don't believe in putting up a christmas tree, set up a nativity scene in your living room. What could be a better reminder of the season? As far as it not actually being Christ's birthday on December 25th, we don't really know do we? Even though we don't know the exact day and time of the birth of our savior, this is the day that over time has been chosen as the day we celebrate it. We do know that our Lord was born over two thousand years ago. No, we don't know for sure that December 25th is that exact date. The thing is, would you want to look in the eyes of the great I Am and tell him that you don't believe in celebrating his birthday even though he was born, persecuted, tortured, and crucified to save you? Well?
I'm going to enjoy celebrating the Christmas season with my friends and family. I'm going to buy presents for the people who are closest to me and open them around our Christmas tree with our nativity scene on the cffee table as well. The whole time we're doing this I'll be thinking about that night over two thousand years ago that a scared young couple was searching for lodging for the night and had to settle foe a manger. I'll be giving thanks for the baby born on that night who was predestined to save us all.
