The Watchmen
The Watchmen
The Watchmen is the name of the top movie in the country right now. It's about costumed superheroes that protect us from the powers of evil though they are misunderstood and persecuted themselves. Though these Watchmen are fantasy art, there are real Watchmen in our world.
The war in the middle east isn't the only war being fought today. There is the neverending battle between the children of the light and the prince of darkness and his minions. It's just like every other war. Each side has it's territory and there's a battlefield in between. Many children of the light live in a world where it's all blue skies and sunshine. They never encounter anything to do with the darkness. That's great if you're living that life. I'm very happy for you. There are other children of the light that live very differently though. I was reminded of this during church over the weekend. A friend of our home church, Sister Vivian, came to visit. She was giving her testimony and talking about her home life. She was talking about how she's always going through the house getting onto her family about things that need to be picked up or taken care of. She said they always complain about her being negative. At the same time, I had been thinking of what I was gonna write on the ministry blog. I was thinking about how some people can't always be positive because they are on the frontline of the struggle between the light and darkness. The have to be The Watchmen. Right after this thought came to mind, sister Vivian said that she told her family that she guessed "Somebody has to be the Watchman around this house". At that moment, I knew I was on the right track.
In this world there are people like sister Vivian and myself who are children of the light, but we aren't always all smiles and happy go lucky. We have to be serious and a little negative sometimes because we are always on alert. We don't live our lives far away from the battle where everything is sunshine and roses. We live our lives walking the frontline, waiting to do battle with the bad spirits trying to cross into this world and ready to reach into the darkness and pull out any lost souls that aren't too far gone. We're simple people by appearance, no flashy uniforms or costumes, but we're also complicated people on the inside.
So, though you may not see anyone flying through the air or leaping from one skyscraper to another, don't be discouraged. There is a protector walking by you on the sidewalk or sitting beside you in the church. There are REAL WATCHMEN in this world.
