Immortality

Immortality Human beings have been fascinated with stories of immortality seemingly forever. Stories of creatures that never die, spells of eternal youth, and magic elixirs run rampant in our history and pop culture. Our fairy tales from our youth told us stories of witches that live forever. Our biggest movies include elves and other creatures who are immortal and our popular television shows are about vampires who live through drinking the blood of humans. I remember as a kid, growing up watching the old Universal Studios monster movies, which I still enjoy watching today. The main monsters were the vampire Count Dracula, The Wolfman who was unable to die, and the creation of a scientist gone too far, Frankenstien's monster. Aside from the scare factor, the idea of living forever and being able to do so many things without consequence, and the thought of amassing unheard of wealth, send amazing fantasies through our human minds. Another favorite of mine is the series of Highlander movies and tv shows. An immortal race of humans who can only die by being beheaded by another immortal, who then absorbs their lifeforce and grows stronger. The all seem to live in beautiful homes or barges docked by the Noter Dame Cathedral, and have an endless amount of material wealth. Sounds great doesn't it? It seems that today many people are talking about and watching the HBO series True Blood. A series about vampires in the American south. It's about how so many humans are lured to these cursed creatures and are willing to give up their soul for eternal life. A life of the living dead in actuallity. One more example of our fascination with immortallity, would be the elves of books and movies such as The Lord of the Rings. Their story goes back many hundreds of years to norse mythology. We're enthralled by these beautiful, never aging, and benevolent creatures. They seem to live in perfect harmony with the world around them and also live a life of luxury. Last, I give you an actual person who spent a great portion of their life seeking immortality. I'm speaking of spanish explorer Juan Ponce DeLeon who hundreds of years ago, spent years of his life searching the new world for the elusive 'fountain of youth'. He had heard of it through legends coming back from the new world and went on a quest searching for the fountain through the stories of the native americans who pointed him toward Florida where he spent a large portion of his life on his misconceived lifequest. Of course, all of these stories are from human mythology, creative authors, and entertainment companies looking to make as much money off of us as possible. No matter what you try, whether it's supposed 'magic elixirs', witches spells, or any other ungodly method someone sells you, you're wasting your time. Just like the rest of us, your body will continue to age, be subject to injury, and catch various illnesses. Eventually, your mortal shell will 'give up the ghost' as a famous jewish carpenter once said. But, I've found out the secret to everlasting life! Yes, it's true, I'm going to live forever in the one and only true paradise! You see, I found the secret in this book years ago and gave my life over to it. Do you want to know what it is? Okay, here it is and I'm giving you the secret to everlasting life for free! John 3:16 (New King James Version) 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Well, what did you think I was talking about? Your brother in Christ, Pete. Pete 10-20-09
