Stay The Course
Stay The Course
How many of us have let someone or something in our lives turn us from the path that God had set us on? It could be a love interest, our job, a friend, sports, or something else that turns us away from our work for the Lord. It keeps us from praying, reading, studying, fasting, going to church, or just speaking to God. We may even be influenced to do ungodly things by this person or activity. What ever it is, it seperates us from Christ. It takes us off course and possibly out of the will of God. If we don't realize that this is happening, we could let it destroy our life. Sometimes God gives us a wake up call to make us see what is going on, but some of us don't realize it until it is too late. At other times, God can rip this person or thing out of our lives altogether in order to save us. We may not see it as saving us at first, because the loss hurts. This makes some people bitter who aren't at the place in their walk that they should be and turn even further away from God. Others of us get over the pain and realize that our Father is just watching out for us and move on with our lives. Here's a great example of what I am talking about.
1 Kings 11:4-6 (Amplified Bible)
4For when Solomon was old, his wives turned away his heart after other gods, and his heart was not perfect (complete and whole) with the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father.
5For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abominable idol of the Ammonites!(A)
6Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and went not fully after the Lord, as David his father did.
Has your heart ever been turned away from God as Solomon's was by his wives? Is there something or someone in your life right now that is seperating you from God? Do you have what it takes to recognize this and stay the course?
Your brother in Christ, Pete.
