So, what is a disciple?

So, what is a disciple? A disciple is a learner, pupil, student or follower of someone. Most people think that Jesus had twelve disciples following him in the bible, but he actually had seventy disciples following him through much of the bible. The twelve closest disciples came to be known as the apostles. These twelve stayed by his side through the good times and the worst of times and followed him all the way to the crucifixcion. They also witnessed him after his resurrection. In the book of Acts in the bible, on the day of pentecost, there are one hundred twenty disciples in the upper room praying when the holy spirit decends upon all of them. That's when they all started speaking in foreign tongues that people from many different countries are able to understand all at once. That's what disciples were in the bible. Today, a disciple isn't too different. Just like the ones in the bible, today's disciples are people who believe in the one true God and his son Jesus Christ and that he died for our sins. They stand by their beliefs and try to spread the gospel of Jesus to those people who don't know our Lord and Saviour. Pretty simple really; you believe with all your heart and you try to show others so they will believe. That's why I named the ministry New Disciples. That's what we're trying to do here; make new disciples. We're trying to tell more people about God and Jesus and how they love you and can save you, not trying to get people into a church or to take your money. We just want to see you in the kingdom of heaven with the rest of us when all is said and done! Pete 11-26-08
