IT’S TIME FOR CHURCHES TO GET REAL The more I see how churches try to reach young people, the more I see why young people don't want to go to church. The elders of the churches are so out of touch with today's youth it's ridiculous! They must still think it's the 1950's or something. Their idea of a good time isn't a sockhop at the school gym on a Friday night anymore and the church needs to realize it and get with the times. They think that every teenager is 100% innocent and hasn't been exposed to the world we live in. GET REAL PEOPLE. By middle school, todays youth have already been exposed to drug and alcohol use, sexual activity, depression, death of friends and loved ones, homosexuality and bisexuality, and a million other things you and their grandparents never had to deal with. SO STOP TALKING TO THEM LIKE CHILDREN AND SHOW THEM SOME INTELLIGENCE AND RESPECT!!! If your in your thirties, like me, think of what pressures you saw in school and multiply that by ten. If your older than me, well, you do the math. Be more understanding of your teenagers and those of your friends and church members. You didn't go through what they see everyday, no matter what you think. I cant' tell you how to reach out to them. As a sunday school teacher at my church, I'm still trying to figure that out myself. All I can tell you is that what you're probably doing now isn't the right way. I can tell you this; sit down with your youth and listen to them a little while and you'll realize how much things have changed and how off base you were. just listen for a while without butting in and talk when they're finished.
