The Way
The Way
Did you know that Christians weren't called Christians until many years after Jesus' death and resurrection? It wasn't until the founding and the growth of the church at Antioch that the name was first used.
Acts 11:25-26 (New King James Version)
25 Then Barnabas departed for Tarsus to seek Saul. 26 And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
During the early years of the church, Jesus followers were not called "Christians". The name of the movement that the apostles were the head of and were building in Jesus name was called "The Way". Why would they have been called "The Way"? Well, lets look at some scripture.
John 14:6 (New King James Version)
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Makes sense now doesn't it?
In today's world where so many people have set a bad example of what a "Christian" is supposed to be, maybe us true believers should go back to our old name, "The Way". I'm honored to be a member of The Way.
