Who is New Disciples Ministry?

Who is New Disciples Ministry? I'm Pete Morrison. I'm from Lexington, NC where I've lived my whole life of 34 years. I started New Disciples as a Myspace group on June the 12th of 2008 and in August I started the first Myspace page that I recently deleted. I had been away from the church for many years. As a teenager I saw things in churches that I didn't agree with and felt were really hipocritical. I saw ministers being provided with homes, cars, and salaries that still weren't satisfied. I saw church goers more concerned about who had the biggest house or drove the most expensive car, or who's kids were the best athletes, than they were concerned about learning about God! I also saw people judging me as soon as I walked through the doors of the church building. This drove me away from the church, but not away from God. Even when I wasn't going to services on Wednesdays and Sundays like most people, I was still a spiritual person and talked to God regularly. Sometimes it was good, sometimes it was bad. A little over a year and a half ago, I was introduced to a woman named Tonya. She was my friend's girlfriend's cousin. When they told me she was a Pentecostal Holiness Sunday school teacher with two kids, my first reaction was WHAT? After we met though I got to know her and got by the stereotype that was my first thought of what she would be like (lesson here; don't judge people, especially before you get to know them). After a few months together, I met the pastor of her church and he invited me to Sunday service. I was surprised by what I saw. Almost all Pentecostal Holiness churches have very strict doctrine(rules of the pastor) about how you dress, act, talk, live, pretty much everything that you can think of that could make you feel controlled. This wasn't like that. Pastor Jack just asks that you dress and act respectfully in church and teaches you the actual Word of God straight out of the Holy Bible and not the doctrine set down by some man. I actually enjoyed going to church! After several months, Jack and his wife Trish asked Tonya to talk to me about teaching the teen Sunday school class. Their son Michael had been teaching it, but was ready to move on to other things. I accepted the position though it hasn't been easy. I've found that trying to teach and get through to teens isn't an easy proposition, but I'm still working on it. Back in the spring of this year, I started feeling a calling in my heart. I knew I was being called to teach and minister the Word of God. I was scared at first and didn't know if I could do it, but I've been encouraged by my pastor, my fiancee and my friends. That's what brings us here today. I'm not an ordained minister and I don't call myself a minister. I didn't go to some big bible college or seminary school. I'm just a man still learning about God's word and trying to share what I've learned with other people in a way that they will understand and be able to use in the real world. I've founded this ministry with some friends of mine. We're starting out as an online ministry and are aiming to grow into a full fledged ministry over time. I promise you that it won't be like the ministries you've been seeing your whole life. So, that's where we're at for now and I hope you'll come along for the ride. Pete 11-21-08
